Today assignment is a partial jump forward and a partial review of monday.  Here is what you need to do:

1. Create two new folders in your StudentHar space for todays work.  The first folder is going to be called "Lists" and the second called "Links."

2. For "Lists" you need to earn the Lists Badge in Treehouse, but also create an HTML document like Nick's for the Video entitled "HTML Lists - Ordered and Unordered."  You should save that document in your "Lists" folder.  For the rest of the Lists badge you can simply watch the second video and complete the quiz and code challenge.

3. For the "Links" badge, you will need to do a little bit more than you did for Lists.  You will need to create TWO HTML Documents for this badge.  One document for the "Anchors" video, and a second document for the Websites part One and Two videos.   Then pass the quiz.  The second webpage you make for this badge, for the Websites part one and two video, is a partial review of what we did monday where we link two pages to each other to create a multi page website.  This is how most websites on the internet work.

Hey everyone!  So it appears laryngitis (I lost my voice) has gotten in the way of my original plans for us today.  I was planning on having us continue our exploration of how style sheets work.  

As it stands, there is still work you can complete in my absence.   Last week I had students who had finished all 5 badges in Treehouse head over to codecademy to complete the remaining HTML basics lessons.  That's everyone's assignment today. Refer back to last weeks post for those instructions if you don't remember.

Good afternoon!  Today is something I'm going to use alliteration to call a "Free-Friday."  However, it's not really a free day. 

Today is more of a gap-day between assignments.  Many of you are still working hard to complete the 5 badges that have been assigned to you.  So today you are "Free" to finish working on all of the Treehouse badges you haven't earned yet.  

Once you have completed that, you are free to move over to codecademy and complete the next few steps in the Web Fundamentals Learning Track (pictured left). 

You have previously completed HTML Basics I and can now begin to work on HTML Basics II and III.  Don't forget to do the Project Exercises.   Also, please don't go beyond the 3rd step above into CSS.

Later in the period today I am going to have you all join my Codecademy Group that I created; so, stay tuned for that.

Before Nick starts to get really deep into the creation of that website, I want to break and review some things.  That's why I am going to have you skip forward in the Learning Adventure today to the HTML section.

If you scroll down in the learning adventure in Treehouse, you will see that the next section is called simply "HTML."

It is broken into 7 separate badges starting with the Introduction and ending with Forms.

PLEASE READ MY INSTRUCTIONS HERE CAREFULLY SO YOU KNOW WHAT I AM REQUIRING YOU TO DO.

In your documents folder (inside the folder you created for yourself), I would like you to make a new folder called 
"HTML Lessons."  That folder will contain all of the html files you will create for these lessons.  

The Introduction to HTML step has 5 videos.  You must watch them, and then pass the quiz at the end, but you do NOT need to produce any work from those videos.

For the second step, called Text, you WILL need to produce some work.  So, inside your HTML Lessons folder, please create a new folder called "Text Lessons," and inside that folder create 5 more folders named after the video lessons.

Here is my example of what it should look like:

You must create a NEW html file for each of the videos in the TEXT step, and save your work in the folder that matches the lesson video title.   In other words, when you finish creating the html file for the "paragraphs and headlines" video, save it in your "paragraphs and headlines" folder, close it, and create a new file for the next video in the series.  Some of these videos add on to the html of the previous video, so feel free to copy and paste code, just make sure there is a separate file so I can GRADE the work you did in EACH STEP.  Questions?

Good Afternoon.  The first thing I would like you to do today is find and open an application on your computer called "Sublime 2."  Look in the applications folder.  

Sublime 2 will be our default HTML and CSS text editor for the remainder of the semester.  It offers a ton of functionality that many other editors just don't provide.  

Next: get some headphones and get them plugged in to your computer.

Next: I want you to log-in to your email account and find an email you were recently sent regarding your Treehouse Subscription.  Click the link in the email and get your Treehouse account running.  

We are going to start what's called a "Learning Adventure" today.  Specifically we are going to begin the "Become a Web Designer" learning adventure.  I will show you how to find this adventure in a few moments.  

Here is what we are going to do on Treehouse and in class today:

1.  Make sure Sublime Text 2 is open.
2. Create a new folder in the Documents of your computer.  Please use your first and last name when creating it.
3.  You will save ALL your work in this folder but you are also required to keep it organized.  I will show you how.
4.  You should start the "Become a Web Designer" learning adventure today.  

5. Watch the Introduction video.
6. Then start the "Website Basics" module (Step 1).

7. I want you to watch the First two videos and complete the first two code challenges.
8. After that you are required to re-create everything that Nick does in the videos, in your own sublime text 2 files (Starting with the video "Introduction to HTML."
9.  Save all the files you make today in a folder.
